Khumbulani Health, Education and Resource Centre was initiated in 2000 by 9 women from Khayelitsha, initially to take action against the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Over the years, we have broadened our focus: Our programmes now include an educare centre; aftercare facilities for children and youths (aged 6 to 24); a psycho-social support group for children and youths at risk; and a vegetable garden. In addition, we continue to host an adult HIV support group. We strive to remain a strong and vibrant community-based organisation with well coordinated and integrated development programmes. Our vision is for communities to be healthy and self-reliant. Through our programmes we build awareness and knowledge with the aim of developing progressive and independent children, youths and adults. Our work is guided by the spirit of ubuntu.

In 2015, Khumbulani was one of 10 early childhood development (ECD) centres in the Western Cape which the Western Cape Department of Education (WCDE) identified as best practice examples for their ECD curriculum implementation. We have consequently been tasked with mentoring other ECD centres on how to implement the curriculum.

One Of Our Helpers FÖRDERVEREIN KHAYELITSHA.DE has help us with the build of our beautiful building and has continue helping us with covi-19 feeding which runs from Monday to Friday. please check their website for more information about the organization www.khayelitsha.de
