Welcome To Khumbulani
Welcome To Khumbulani Health, Education and Resource Centre
Khumbulani was initiated in 2000 by 9 women from Khayelitsha, initially to take action against the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Over the years, we have broadened our focus: Our programmes now include an educare centre; aftercare facilities for children and youths (aged 6 to 24); a psycho-social support group for children and youths at risk; and a vegetable garden. In addition, we continue to host an adult HIV support group. We strive to remain a strong and vibrant community-based organisation with well coordinated and integrated development programmes. Our vision is for communities to be healthy and self-reliant. Through our programmes we build awareness and knowledge with the aim of developing progressive and independent children, youths and adults. Our work is guided by the spirit of ubuntu.
In 2015, Khumbulani was one of 10 early childhood development (ECD) centres in the Western Cape which the Western Cape Department of Education (WCDE) identified as best practice examples for their ECD curriculum implementation. We have consequently been tasked with mentoring other ECD centres on how to implement the curriculum.
We also have two accredited Grade R classes. Due to their success, the WCDE has asked us to offer two additional Grade R classes in future.
Our psycho-social support group is accredited, supported and monitored by the Western Cape Department of Social Development.
Khumbulani's efforts have also been recognized by Cape Talk's Lead SA campaign. Khumbulani's director, Gloria Bebeza (a founding member of the organization), was chosen as Hero of the Month for July 2015.
